Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 27, 2026. This policy explains how Washington Apple Pi handles information connected with this website and points you to the services used for membership and community activities. For privacy questions or requests, email office@wap.org.

Information you share with the Pi

If you email us or use the contact form, we receive your address, message, and any information you choose to include. Volunteers use it to answer your question or administer the community. If you join, renew, donate, or request access to member activities, the relevant service collects the details needed for that activity. The Pi may use membership and group information to confirm eligibility, provide member services, and communicate about the organisation. Please avoid sending sensitive personal or payment details through the form or by email.

Services used by the website

  • Join It manages membership, renewals, donations, and account details when you follow a join or member-account link. Payment details are handled through the checkout service and any payment processor identified there, not by a form on this website. See Join It’s privacy policy.
  • Groups.io hosts member discussions, the calendar, shared files, and group access requests. Posts and profile information may be visible to other group members according to the group’s settings. See Groups.io’s privacy policy and cookie policy.
  • YouTube and Google provide meeting recordings. An embedded YouTube player may connect to their services when it loads, even when it uses YouTube’s privacy-enhanced domain. Watching on YouTube takes you to YouTube directly. See Google’s privacy policy.
  • RSS2JSON converts Apple Newsroom’s feed into headlines on our Apple News page. Your browser contacts its API when the page loads and while it remains open, which can reveal technical details such as your IP address to that service. Read more at RSS2JSON. You can read Apple’s articles directly at Apple Newsroom instead.
  • FormSubmit processes the name, email, subject, and message you provide in the contact form and emails the submission to the Pi president’s mailbox at me@craigjobbins.com. It may present a spam check, and its documentation says it retains form submissions for 30 days. See FormSubmit’s privacy policy. You can email office@wap.org directly instead.
  • ChatGPT Sites / OpenAI hosts this website and may process technical information needed to serve and protect it, such as requests, device or browser information, and sign-in information when site access requires it. See OpenAI’s privacy notices.

Links to Facebook / Meta, Bluesky, and Mastodon.social lead to those services; their own policies apply when you visit them. The site also links to Pi material on theapplepi.org and wap.org. These are ordinary links, not social tracking widgets on this website.

Browser storage, cookies, and analytics

This website saves your dark-mode and accessibility choices in your browser’s local storage so they work on a later visit. You can reset the accessibility choices with the site’s accessibility control or clear this site’s storage in your browser. The site does not currently load a separate analytics or advertising tracker. The host, sign-in service, third-party video player, and news-feed provider may use their own cookies or similar technology under their practices. Browser settings can limit cookies, though some functions may then be unavailable.

Sharing, retention, and your choices

We share information with the services above as needed for their stated roles and with volunteers who administer the Pi. We may also disclose information when required by law. The services may process data in different countries. We keep Pi-managed information for as long as reasonably needed for membership, community administration, records, or legal obligations; service providers set their own retention practices. We have not specified a single retention period for every type of record.

To ask what Pi-managed information we hold, request a correction or deletion, or raise a privacy concern, email office@wap.org. We will respond subject to applicable law and necessary recordkeeping. To manage information held directly by Join It, Groups.io, YouTube, or a social platform, use that service’s account controls or privacy contact as well.

Changes

We will update this page when our practices or services change and change the date above. For how you may use site content, see the Website Terms of Use.
